Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient form of energy healing rediscovered by the Japanese spiritual teacher/healer, Mikao Usui, in 1922. The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words: “Rei” which can mean spiritual, divine, sacred, or higher wisdom and ‘Ki,” which means life force energy. Together, Reiki can be translated as spiritually guided life force energy. This energy is channeled by a Reiki practitioner who gently cleanses the recipient of lower vibrational energies, dissolves blockages, and aids in restoring a harmonious flow to the mind, body, and spirit. In Reiki, it's believed that when our life energy is low/blocked, we’re more likely to feel stressed or become ill, and when it’s flowing freely, we’re more inclined to be healthy and balanced.
What is Usui Reiki, Holy Fire Reiki, and Karuna Reiki?
Usui Reiki is a traditional and gentle Reiki system founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It combines energy work with spiritual principles for daily living, aiming to support wellness in the mind, body, and spirit. Usui Reiki students are trained through attunements and use of specific intention setting symbols to focus and enhance the energy. Attunements are a scared process in which the student receives the ability to channel Reiki directly from the Reiki Master Teacher.
Holy Fire® Reiki is an evolution of the traditional style of Usui Reiki. It was founded by William Lee Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) in January 2014. This system uses the traditional Usui symbols in addition to the frequency of Holy Fire. The Holy Fire Reiki student receives the ability to channel Reiki via placements rather than attunements. In placements, the Reiki frequency is received and guided by a higher spiritual source, rather than being transferred directly through the Reiki Master Teacher. Holy Fire® Reiki is a high vibrational energy that is gentle and nurturing, yet very powerful. It promotes wholeness, unconditional love, healing, self-empowerment, and expanding one’s consciousness. Both Usui and Holy Fire Reiki use universal life force energy, however, Holy Fire has been perceived by some as more immediate, refined, and divinely guided.
Karuna Reiki® was founded by William Lee Rand of the ICRT and officially established in 1995. The word Karuna translates to compassionate action. This system of Reiki is more advanced and heart centered, as it focuses to address deep rooted emotional and spiritual issues/patterns.
At i-nomie energy healing, sessions may incorporate a blend of traditional Usui Reiki, Holy Fire® Reiki, and Karuna Reiki® techniques and energies. Each session is intuitively guided and thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is beneficial for relaxation, general stress relief, emotional/mental healing, and support during illness and recovery. Since it’s gentle and non-invasive, it can be used alongside conventional medical treatments. Additionally, many clients report more restful sleep patterns, decreased anxiety, amplified goal manifesting, increased spiritual and psychic development, faster healing of bodily injuries, and reduced negative symptoms and side effects due to illness and medical treatments/surgeries.
How is Reiki facilitated and what is it like?
The client, fully dressed, relaxes on a massage table or chair. The practitioner sets the intention for the highest and greatest good of the client. They then administer Reiki by placing their hands on or slightly above the body, using several hand positions, and utilizing various intention setting symbols to aid in amplified healing. Unlike massage, there is no manipulation of the skin or muscle tissue.
Many individuals report entering a very calm and relaxed state. You may experience light tingling and/or warmth or cooling sensations. In some, chronic or acute pain can diminish or completely vanish. Sometimes allergies and other conditions completely disappear. This varies with each individual. It’s important to note that both Reiki and the client are working together to heal the client, and the practitioner is not the one doing the healing.
What can I expect after a Reiki treatment?
You may find yourself either very relaxed and lighter energetically or invigorated and re-energized. Whatever is needed, you will experience. Reiki itself is very gentle, but it can also be detoxifying as it can help remove energy blockages and bring forth energies that are being released. Following your treatment, it’s recommended to drink plenty of water, be gentle with yourself, and rest (if needed) as your body adjusts to the energetic shifts and rebalancing.
